Certification Links
The following links are provided to help you better keep up on required training and to help new coaches get started in the process. Please present the Athletic Office with your certificates of completion. Karyn will keep your records but it is your responsibility to keep current and up-to-date.
Coaches Education
The OSAA requires ALL coaches that work with our kids for more than two days, volunteer or paid, to have successfully completed the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course. This is a lifetime certification that does not need to be renewed. The penalty for a coach that is not certified is forfeiture and large fines.
Bloodborne Pathogen Training
Bloodborne pathogen training is a requirement of GBSD employment but also required of all coaches at Barlow. It is required annually and can be done online at this link as long as your initial training was done with the MESD. If you let it lapse, you will required to take the class again and offerings are very limited.
Anabolic Steroids & Performance Enhancing Substance Training
The State of Oregon has passed legislation that requires all coaches and athletic directors to take this training. The certification must be done once every four years but is required before coaching duties begin.
ACTIVE Concussion Management Training
NFHS Concussion in Sport - What You Need to Know
The State of Oregon has passed new legislation that requires all coaches and athletic directors to take this training. The certification must be done annually prior to performing coaching duties. Either course fills the requirement.
First Aid
GBSD will no longer honor first aid training that was completed online. All coaches need to be certified and current. You may wish to contact the local Red Cross. Certifications are usually good for 2-3 years, depending on the training. It is also important to stay current because a lapse will require another full training session rather than a much shorter renewal.
